Day 1: Fes - Merzouga
We will pick you up from your hotel/riad in Fes at 8 a.m. We will drive to Merzouga pass through Ifrane and Azrou in the Middle Atlas mountains. We will stop in the cedars forest in Azrou where you will see the monkeys. We travel through the Tizi Ntalghamt pass to Midelt (famous for its fossils and rocks) and along the amazing Ziz Gorges carved with volcanic rock. You will see views of the Middle-Atlas plateau. The scenery will change to reveal hints of the desert as we approach the city of Errachidia. After lunch, we will go through the Ziz valley to Rissani and Merzouga. We stay overnight in Hotel / Riad in Merzouga.
Day 2: Merzouga area and the Camel trek
After breakfast we explore the area visiting village Khamlia, where live the Gnawa people – originally slaves brought from Sudan. Here we experience their music and lifestyle. Just near from here there is lake of Merzouga (with its bird populations). Then we drive to Rissani (called Sijilmassa and the meeting place for the salt caravans, coming from Timbuktu in Mali).
Here you will walk through the local souk, smelling the spices, and vegetables. After tasty pizza lunch in Rissani (traditional Berber Rissani pizza), we will travel back to our hotel/riad where our camel waiting us. After a glass of mint tea, guided by an experienced camel guide, you will begin your camel safari, exploring sand-sea of the Erg-Chebbi. We will spend the magical night under the stars. If you prefer you can sleep in a traditional Berber nomad tent.
Day 3: Merzouga - Todra Gorge - Dades Gorge
In the early morning you will watch the spectacular sunrise in the dunes. Then we will ride camel back to hotel/riad to take a shower and breakfast crossing unique beauty of Erg Chebbi dunes. After breakfast we will drive to Tinghir and Todra Gorges – highest and narrowest gorges in Morocco. Here you will have the chance to hike along this valley.
After lunch we will drive through the Dades Valley, to see the majestic sand castles and the amazing rock formations (“called monkey toes”). We will sleep in a hotel in the heart of the gorge.
Day 4: Dades Gorge - Ait Ben Haddou - Marrakech
After breakfast we drive through the Dades Valley towards Kalaat Mgouna and Ouarzazate, the Kasbah of Taourirt and the Atlas Studios movie studios. We will stop at Kalaat Mgouna, “the rose city”, where you will have opportunity to to purchase the rosewater, which will make your linen smell good a long time after your trip finishes. Then we continue to Ouarzazate, called “the Hollywood of Africa”.
After lunch we visit the famous Ait Ben Haddou kasbah, (UNESCO World Heritage site). Our journey will continue through the majestic Tizi ‘n’ tichka pass (2260 m) over the High Atlas Mountains. We will arrive to Marrakech in the evening for the end of the tour.
